Volunteers Needed

Metrocon is less than two weeks away! Every year, this is our main money-raising venture. In the past, we've used money from Metrocon to purchase the projector and screen we currently use.

We'll have our table open Friday and Saturday, from 10 AM to 6 PM. We'll hold our prize drawing at 6 PM Saturday night.

We're also looking for people to help out at the table during those hours. Even if you have only an hour or two to spare, let us know, so that we can switch off and take breaks now and then. Follow the link below to sign up to volunteer in the forum. Thanks!

TBA Lineup for 6/7/08

Club favorite Bamboo Blade is coming to an end! We'll be watching the last two episodes at the next meeting. What should take its place? Kamen no Maid Guy? Special A? Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is already a fixture in our meetings, and we'll probably start doubling up on that one, since it's coming out pretty regularly.

Also, our Anime Bingo Card contest is ending at the next meeting! Be sure to get your entries in before then.

The Frugal Otaku #1: Series Introduction and Welcome to the NHK

"Have you supported your local anime industry today, sir?"
Tampa Bay Anime has always supported the domestic anime market. We love anime, and we want to see it flourish. The best way to do that is to make sure that the people who make it are rewarded for their efforts.

However, we also understand that we can't all afford to buy anime to support the industry we love. How can these people support anime creators and distributors when they can't buy their products.

That's what this new article series is all about. We're going to point out places that anime fans can go to get their fix with a clean conscience. There are plenty of good places to get quality anime while supporting the industry, and we want to help you and them.

Read the full article to learn more about TBA's goals and to find out about our first offering, Welcome to the NHK!

Two New Forum Features

I'm proud to announce a couple new features that have just been added to the Tampa Bay Anime forums.

The first one is something a lot of people have asked for.  There is now a section at the top of each page that shows the date for the next TBA meeting.  It automatically updates itself, so it should always be accurate.  If we are going to skip a meeting date, then this will be updated so that it skips that date and reminds you why the date is being skipped.

The second feature is much more fun.  There is now a code that you can use to embed YouTube videos directly into your forum posts.  All you have to do is find that video's id, and then type it in surrounded by .  To find a video's id, look at its url. Find the characters after the "v=". If there is an "&" after that, the code is everything between "v=" and "&". Otherwise, it's everything after "v=".

For example, if the url is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OM8ODecbuhA, then the ID is "OM8ODecbuhA". If you want to embed that in your forum post, type in this:

When people read your post, they'll see this:

We're always looking and listening for new ideas, so let us know if you have anything you'd like to see added to the site or the forums.  Have fun!
